Meralco Expands Power Capacity to Support Rapid Growth in Taguig and Makati

Taguig

As part of its infrastructure development program, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has completed a significant upgrade to its Fort Bonifacio Global City-2 (BGC-2) Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation to meet the ever-rising power demands of Taguig and some parts of Makati.

The expansion includes the commissioning of a new 83 megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer and a 34.5 kilovolt (kV) GIS. The facility is expected to improve power supply capacity, load flexibility, and ensure more reliable service across important urban zones.

With Bonifacio Global City emerging as a major commercial and residential hub, the upgraded substation is positioned to accommodate the area’s rapidly rising energy requirements. Among the major beneficiaries are key institutions such as the Department of Energy, St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Philippine National Oil Company, Market! Market!, and the Serendra residential complex.

Meralco noted that this development forms part of its broader strategy to future-proof its distribution network in response to continued urbanization and increased energy consumption. By bolstering its infrastructure, the utility aims to support sustainable growth in high-density business and lifestyle districts.

The company has restated its commitment to investing in projects that improve the safety, stability, and reliability of its power delivery system for both commercial and residential customers.

What do you think of the future of energy security? Will we always be able to meet the ever-rising demand for sustainable energy?
