The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) is planning to switch on more hyperscale data centers to support the industry.
In a report by Business World, MERALCO Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie Aperocho mentioned that the distribution utility (DU) firm has equipped data center facilities with redundant electricity supply to help improve service availability.
Hyperscale data centers are vital facilities for businesses requiring extensive data processing and storage capabilities.
This was accomplished by adding a second supply from a dependable power source, which increased the service availability even more.
MERALCO senior vice-president Ferdinand O. Geluz said in 2023 that the company launched hyperscale-ready data centers with a starting capacity of 22 megawatts (MW), which can ramp up to 180 MW.
Geluz added that currently, a total of thirty service applications with a capacity of 1,200 MW are in the pipeline.
MERALCO has been offering comprehensive solutions tailored to meet the needs of hyperscalers and data centers. These solutions covered master planning, value engineering, timely energization, energy and demand management, Retail Competition and Open Access day one switch, as well as renewable options.
