The Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) has announced a slight increase of Php0.0844 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for its November 2022 billing, bringing the overall rate to Php 9.9472 per kWh.
For residential consumers consuming 200 kWh, this would mean a slight increase of Php17 in their electricity bill.
The slight uptick was brought about by the increase in generation charges, which went up to Php6.9917 per kWh. Charges from power supply agreements (PSAs) went up due to the scheduled maintenance outage of the First Natural Gas-San Gabriel Power Plant. The increase was mitigated by lower charges from the independent power producers (IPPs) and the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
Meanwhile, transmission, taxes, and other charges also registered an upward adjustment of Php0.0119 per kWh. But this was mitigated by four ongoing refunds ordered by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) totaling Php1.8009 per kWh.
