The Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) will be providing power supply to the common telco towers being built by Malaysian firm edotco Towers, Inc., an independent tower company.

MERALCO was able to energize around 50 common towers and is expected to power 50 more by the end of the year. The company will also facilitate the transfer of service for around 700 telco assets in its franchise area that edotco acquired from PLDT, Inc.

“One of the immediate things we want to do is upgrade the service for our cellular sites. This is where we look forward to Meralco supporting this because the speed of energization enables our customers to deliver excellent internet connectivity services for the Filipinos,” edotco acting country managing director Suraj Narayanan Kutty said in a statement.

Furthermore, MERALCO will also be providing strategic and technical support to enhance edotco’s operational efficiency and other services like automatic payment arrangements, enrollment to peak and off-peak programs, power quality consults, and contract right sizing.

“This partnership with edotco is a testimony to Meralco’s commitment to our customers and our nation, ensuring that we continue to deliver excellently to our customers, anchored on our purpose and mission to put customers at the core of our business.” Meralco vice president and head of corporate partners Ma. Cecilia Domingo said.

Edotco is an integrated telecommunications services company in Asia. It is currently expanding to allow telecommunications companies to collocate in a single tower, which can eliminate dead spots and reduce the number of cellular sites.
