Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has approved the sale of its majority stake in Radius Telecoms, Inc. to PLDT Inc. for nearly PHP 3 billion, marking a strategic exit from the telecommunications infrastructure business.
In a disclosure on Monday, Meralco said its board cleared the sale of a 65.1% equity stake held by Paragon Vertical Corporation in Radius Telecoms to PLDT for an indicative consideration of PHP 2.935 billion.
Paragon is a wholly owned subsidiary of e-Meralco Ventures, which in turn is fully owned by Meralco.
PLDT currently holds the remaining 34.9% stake in Radius, meaning the transaction would give the telco full ownership of the company once completed.
The deal remains subject to approval by PLDT’s board. Meralco said it will disclose further developments as the transaction progresses.
Radius Telecoms is Meralco’s telecommunications arm, operating a 100% fiber-optic network that spans Metro Manila and nearby provinces, as well as key hubs like Clark and Cebu.
Originally established in 2000 as part of Meralco’s digital ventures, the company has evolved into a provider of enterprise-grade connectivity, offering services such as dedicated internet access, data networking, and cloud-based solutions to businesses.
Radius also entered the consumer market through its RED Fiber broadband service, which provides fiber internet to households in parts of Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon.
The company’s infrastructure footprint includes thousands of kilometers of fiber lines and coverage across residential developments, enterprise buildings, and business districts.
PLDT first bought into Radius in 2024, citing the potential to expand fiber coverage and integrate network capabilities.
