Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo has been named by new House of Representatives Speaker Lord Allan Velasco as the chairman of the House Committee on Energy.

Mikey, the son of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, will be taking over from Velasco, who was the former energy committee chair.

Prior to his appointment as chairman, Rep. Arroyo sat as one of the committee’s nine vice chairmen.

Under the 18th Congress, he co-authored seven bills related to energy, including proposed amendments to the Electric Power Industry Reform Act, or the EPIRA law, and the proposed creation of the Mindanao Power Corporation. All seven energy-related bills are pending with the committee he now heads.
