Movem Electric, Inc., the electric mobility arm of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), is pushing for faster development of charging infrastructure in the Philippines, underscoring the need for stronger coordination between government, utilities, and private sector players to support electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
At Solar & Storage Live Philippines 2026 held on May 19 to 20, Movem President and CEO Ralph M. Menchavez joined energy stakeholders in discussions focused on scaling up EV charging networks and strengthening the country’s shift toward cleaner transport systems.
The company said the expansion of reliable charging infrastructure is critical to building consumer confidence and enabling long-term growth of electric mobility in the country. It also emphasized the role of scalable and resilient solutions to meet evolving transport and energy system demands.
Menchavez stressed that infrastructure deployment alone is not sufficient to accelerate adoption.
“This infrastructure rollout must be complemented by strong public private collaboration and targeted incentives to accelerate investment and improve utilization,” Menchavez said.
The discussion comes as the Philippine EV sector continues to expand, with industry players calling attention to gaps in charging availability, grid readiness, and investment incentives that could influence adoption rates in the coming years.
Movem said it remains committed to supporting sustainable transport initiatives and advancing end-to-end EV charging solutions aligned with operational and sustainability goals.
The company operates as the sustainable mobility arm of Meralco, positioning itself within broader efforts to prepare the country’s energy ecosystem for electrified transport growth.
What do you think will be the biggest bottleneck for EV adoption in the Philippines—charging infrastructure, incentives, or grid readiness?
