The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is looking to complete its Php 5.48 billion transmission line project supporting the growing power requirements of Boracay by 2024.

In a report by the Philippines Star, NGCP said that there is a need for grid expansion and development to keep up with the island’s increasing demand for power.

The 138 kilovolt (kV) Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay line is currently under construction and is NGCP’s long-term solution to support load growth in Boracay.

NGCP will be reinforcing the grid with an additional submarine cable and will be upgrading the existing 69-kV facilities to 138 kV.

The entire transmission project includes underground and submarine cables connecting the mainland to Boracay Island, overhead transmission lines, a cable terminal station, a new Boracay substation, and an upgraded Nabas substation.

The Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay transmission line project was certified by the Department of Energy (DOE) as an Energy Project of National Significance.
