PhilPhos Taps Mabuhay Energy for Cheaper Power Under RCOA Scheme

Power PH – PhilPhos Taps Mabuhay Energy for Cheaper Power Under RCOA Scheme

Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corporation (PhilPhos), one of Southeast Asia’s leading fertilizer manufacturers, has partnered with Mabuhay Energy Corporation (MECO) in a strategic move to cut operational costs and ensure reliable energy, marking a key shift in the fertilizer firm’s energy sourcing.

The deal, signed on March 7 at SEDA Makati Hotel, allows PhilPhos to switch to Mabuhay Energy as its Retail Electricity Supplier (RES) under the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program. The program enables large power consumers to choose their electricity providers based on price and reliability.

PhilPhos expects “significant savings on electricity bills while ensuring a stable and reliable power source,” the company said. The move is part of broader efforts to reduce operational expenses and optimize energy consumption across its facilities.

For MECO, the partnership is not just a commercial win but a personal milestone. “It’s surreal to think about how time has flown. Looking back over the past 20 years, this moment serves as a reminder of how connections evolve and opportunities unfold,” said Sherwing G. Hing, MECO Chairman. “I truly hope this marks the beginning of a strong, long-term partnership.”

PhilPhos Senior Vice President Joselito Y. Bautista echoed the sentiment: “It does not feel like a transactional relationship, which means a lot to me. You treat your customers like partners, and that is something we deeply appreciate.”

The agreement highlights the growing appeal of alternative energy suppliers for large industrial firms seeking both cost savings and energy security—an important factor amid rising energy prices and supply challenges.
