Solar Philippines Retail Electricity, Inc., a subsidiary of Solar Philippines, is the latest retail electricity supplier (RES) to be included in the Department of Energy’s green energy option program (GEOP).
The addition of the Leandro Leviste-led firm brings the GEOP’s RES participants to 14.
Aboitiz Power Corporation still has the most RES participants at five, namely Aboitiz Energy Solutions, Adventenergy, Prism Energy, SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP)-Magat, and SNAP-RES.
First Gen Corporation of the Lopezes follow with three — Bacman Geothermal, Inc.; First Gen Energy Solutions; and Green Core Geothermal, Inc.
The Ayalas, meanwhile, have AC Energy and Ayala Land unit DirectPower Services, Inc.
Rounding up the list are Citicore Energy Solutions, Inc.; Shell Energy Philippines; and SPARC-Solar Powered Agri-Rural Communities Corporation.
Launched in 2018, the GEOP was established in accordance with Section 9 of Republic Act 9513 or the Renewable Energy (RE) Act of 2008. It acts as a voluntary mechanism that allows contestable consumers to source their power supply from qualified RESs that source electricity from RE.
The Energy Regulatory Commission recently issued its rules for the GEOP.
