Tera 7 to invest Php 17.62 B for solar plant in Pangasinan

Bill urges gov’t to tap into solar energy to power buildings, facilities

With the goal to provide Luzon with an accessible baseload power supply, Tera Renewables 7 Corporation is infusing around Php 17.62 billion for the construction of a solar power plant located in Labrador, Pangasinan.

Construction of the plant is slated for the first quarter of 2025, with commercial operations anticipated by 2026. Once operational, it is projected to provide a peak capacity of around 451.38 megawatts (MWp).

In a Manila Standard report, the Labrador 1 Solar Power Project (SPP) spans 296.45 hectares in Barangay Bolo, Labrador. The firm said that Pangasinan’s high solar energy potential was the key factor in selecting the location for this initiative.

The project will feature 673,708 photovoltaic (PV) panels installed on a ground-mounted system reinforced with steel structures to ensure stability and efficiency.

PV panels, also called solar panels, turn sunlight into electricity. They are made up of small parts called photovoltaic cells, usually made from a material called silicon. When sunlight hits these cells, it makes tiny particles called electrons move, creating electricity. This electricity, called direct current (DC), is changed into alternating current (AC) by a device called an inverter so it can be used in homes, businesses, or sent to the power grid.

Solar panels are a clean energy source that helps the environment by reducing pollution and saving money on energy costs.

Additionally, Tera 7 is moving forward with a phased development approach for the site, with Phase 1 focusing on the southern section and Phase 2 on the northern section. The prioritization of Phase 1 is driven by the efforts and resources needed for land acquisition.

To facilitate energy distribution, the project will connect directly to the grid via a transmission line linked to NGCP’s Bolo Substation. This transmission line will utilize a series of grounded steel towers, ensuring reliable connectivity to the power network.

CleanTech Global Renewables Inc., the parent company of Tera 7, said that it also had additional undertakings in the province due to the area’s viability for solar power development.
