Unioil and Repsol Forge Strategic Partnership to Expand Lubricants Market in the Philippines

In a major milestone for the Philippine lubricants industry, the Unioil Group of Companies has entered into a strategic partnership with Repsol S.A., one of the world’s leading energy and petrochemical companies. As part of the agreement, Repsol Downstream Internacional, S.A.U., a subsidiary of Repsol, has acquired a 40% stake in Unioil Lubricants Inc. (ULI), Unioil’s lubricants manufacturing and distribution arm.

With the buy-in Repsol, ULI will now add to its manufacturing and distribution line Repsol lubricants.

The partnership strengthens Unioil’s position as a key player in the local lubricants market, enhancing its product portfolio and expanding market reach. The collaboration also marks Repsol’s increased presence in the Philippines, bringing global expertise in lubricant innovation and high-performance formulations.

Owned by the Co family, Unioil was incorporated in 1966. It started as a re-refiner of base oil until it expanded into manufacturing its own branded lubricants. In 1994, the company entered a landmark partnership with Japan’s Idemitsu, becoming the exclusive and licensed distributor of Idemitsu lubricants in the country. Today, it is one of the country’s largest OEM-branded lubricant manufacturers, supplying high-quality automotive and industrial lubricants to various industries.

The partnership with Repsol marks a new chapter in its growth, leveraging global resources to enhance production capabilities and expand market penetration.

“We are thrilled to announce this strategic partnership with Repsol. This collaboration not only strengthens our position in the lubricants market but also allows us to offer a wider range of high-quality products to our customers. We are confident that this partnership will drive significant growth and innovation for Unioil Lubricants Inc,” Manuel Soriano, President of ULI said in a statement.
