Vena Energy commits to 25-year STEM scholarship program in Samar

Vena Energy has signed a 25-year scholarship agreement with Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU), committing long-term financial support for students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses in Samar.

The agreement, signed on May 26 through Vena Energy’s project company Gemini Wind Energy Corp., will provide scholarships to 10 students annually, with each recipient receiving PHP 25,000 per semester.

Students at state universities such as NwSSU are covered by the government’s free tuition program, but many still face education-related costs including transportation, books, laboratory requirements, and daily living expenses. The additional financial assistance is expected to help reduce these burdens for students pursuing STEM degrees.

The initiative marks one of the longest-term education support commitments announced by a renewable energy developer in the Philippines and aligns with the company’s broader community development efforts in areas hosting its energy projects.

Under the memorandum of agreement, the scholarship program will run continuously for 25 years, allowing multiple generations of students to benefit from financial assistance while pursuing STEM-related degrees.

“Our host communities are the backbone of our operations, and we believe that investing in their future is the clearest demonstration of our appreciation and support,” said Samrinder Nehria, Head of Vena Energy in the Philippines.

“This 25-year commitment ensures that we provide sustained, impactful assistance to the youth. By empowering these bright minds in STEM, we are helping them achieve their personal dreams while equipping them to become the future innovators of the province,” he added.

The agreement was signed by newly elected NwSSU President Atty. Lorielie F. Tangaran, with NwSSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Romeo B. Santos and Vena Energy representative Marivic Acuyong serving as witnesses.

Tangaran described the partnership as a significant boost for higher education and talent development in Samar.

“Beyond the vital financial relief it provides, this scholarship is a profound investment in the future of Samar. By supporting our STEM students today, Vena Energy is helping us cultivate the next generation of engineers, scientists, and local leaders who will drive sustainable progress in our province for decades to come,” she said.

The scholarship program expands Vena Energy’s existing community initiatives in Samar, where the company has been supporting education and socioeconomic development alongside its renewable energy investments.
