Talks are underway between the United States and the Philippines regarding potential joint ventures in nuclear energy and renewable energy (RE).
In a report by the Business World, United States Undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez said that he was in discussions with the Department of Energy (DOE) and Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla aimed to boost collaboration in RE and nuclear energy, leading to “generous and clean energy sources for Filipinos.”
Secretary Lotilla confirmed the collaboration, saying that the partnership would be centering on energy security and semiconductor manufacturing.
There were also discussions to introduce more scholarship support for Filipinos in the US and cooperation to aid the Philippine energy infrastructure.
US Undersecretary Fernandez also conferred with Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto to discuss the US-Philippines relationship in energy security, semiconductors, and minerals.
In November, the Philippines entered into a collaborative effort with the US Department of State to explore opportunities for the growth and development of the global semiconductor industry.
This joint initiative is in line with the CHIPS Act of 2022, a US law designed to provide funding support for the enhancement of local manufacturing and research capabilities in the semiconductor sector.
