Terra Solar Philippines Inc. (TSPI) has partnered with Power Construction Corporation of China Ltd. (Power China), for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to develop the world’s largest integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery facility.
In a report by Manila Standard, Solar Philippines subsidiary TSPI is advancing a landmark renewable energy project in Central Luzon, featuring a 3,500-megawatt peak (MWp) solar farm combined with a 4,500 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system, poised to deliver sustainable electricity to over two million households.
MGEN Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), the renewable energy arm of MERALCO PowerGen Corporation (MGen), holds a controlling stake in SPNEC.
The groundbreaking for the MTerra Solar project was recently held in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, with the site set to supply 850 MW of mid-merit, sustainable energy, making it competitive with conventional power plants.
Power China will manage the east section of the project, covering approximately 1,505 hectares and encompassing Barangay Makabaklay in Gapan, Barangay Pias in General Tinio, and Barangay Callos in Peñaranda. This section will contribute 1,050 MWp to the total capacity.
Power China previously handled projects such as the 540-MW Kauswagan Coal-Fired Power Plant, the 1,320-MW Dinginin Coal-Fired Power Plant, and the Dumanjug Converter Station of the Visayas-Mindanao Interconnection Project.
The agreement with Power China covers engineering, procurement, construction, and project execution. It also includes warranties, defect resolution, and long-term operational and maintenance protocols to ensure reliability and sustainability.
