SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, has partnered with the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines to expand the All Lights Village project, an initiative aimed at providing solar-powered lighting, educational resources, and livelihood opportunities to off-grid communities. The partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on February 14, 2025, at the SM Prime Headquarters, underscoring SM Cares’ commitment to sustainability and community empowerment.
Through this collaboration, fundraising booths will be set up at SM Aura, SM Megamall, and SM Mall of Asia, allowing mallgoers to contribute to the initiative and help bring sustainable energy solutions to underserved families. The initiative not only provides access to clean energy but also enhances economic opportunities and promotes climate-friendly development in communities with limited access to electricity.
The All Lights Village project, spearheaded by GPF Philippines, is a sustainable development program designed to uplift families in rural areas by addressing energy poverty through solar-powered lighting solutions. Many communities across the country still lack access to reliable electricity, making it difficult for families to perform daily tasks, children to study at night, and small businesses to operate efficiently.
The introduction of solar lighting will not only improve safety and productivity but also eliminate the health hazards associated with traditional kerosene lamps, which many off-grid households rely on.
During the MOA signing, Joaquin San Agustin, Executive Vice President for Marketing of SM Supermalls, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. “SM Cares is proud to support the All Lights Village project and its mission of empowering communities through sustainable development. By providing these families with clean energy and opportunities, we are not just lighting homes but also paving the way for brighter, more hopeful futures.”
Leonard Faustino, Executive Director of GPF Philippines, for his part emphasized the importance of partnerships in creating meaningful change.“This partnership with SM Cares reflects a shared vision of creating lasting change in communities that need it the most. Together, we are proving that even the smallest actions, like providing light, can spark transformative impact,” he said.
