Students and teachers at Ambuklao Elementary School now have access to a more reliable electricity supply following the turnover and switch-on of a solar power system donated by SN Aboitiz Benguet (SNAP-Benguet) on February 12, 2026.
The donation includes 22 solar panels, an inverter, batteries, breakers, and other electrical materials valued at approximately Php300,000. SNAP-Benguet’s electrical and facilities teams volunteered to install the system and committed to ongoing maintenance to ensure its continued operation.
The solar panels were provided by SNAP-Benguet’s affiliate, SNAP-Magat, which previously piloted a floating solar project in preparation for a proposed commercial solar facility.
The school requested the assistance through former principal Emerson Hadsan to address frequent power interruptions during the rainy season, which disrupted classes and other activities for the school’s 70 learners.
During the turnover ceremony, Principal Emilyn Esnara said, “With this facility donated by SNAP, our teachers will be able to continuously prepare learning activities and conduct classes for the children, even during heavy rains and storms.”
Ambuklao Barangay Chairman Rey Tello noted that the school is the first recipient of SNAP’s solar power initiative in Bokod, which is also expected to help reduce the barangay’s electricity expenses.
The project aligns with SNAP’s ongoing efforts to support host communities while promoting sustainable and renewable energy solutions. It also contributes to the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development goals, particularly on quality education and affordable, clean energy.
SNAP operates several hydroelectric plants in the Philippines, including the 112.5-MW Ambuklao and 140-MW Binga facilities in Benguet, as well as the 360-MW Magat plant on the Isabela-Ifugao border. The company is a joint venture of Scatec, a global renewable energy developer, and Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. (ARI), the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation.
