Caritas Philippines, the advocacy division of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), is equipping far-flung communities with solar panels as part of its dedication to preserve the environment.
“The CBCP and Caritas Philippines will install solar panels in off-grid communities, ensuring that even the most remote areas benefit from renewable energy,” said the group.
Caritas Philippines is pursuing this initiative to take part in the “10 Million Solar Rooftops Challenge” which was launched on Tuesday.
The 10 Million Solar Rooftop Challenge is an impactful goal, the organization believes, as it aims to install solar panels in households nationwide, which could help in reducing carbon emissions and encourage a more sustainable future.
“The initiative aims to significantly contribute to the nation’s renewable energy targets, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and empower communities to become more climate resilient by fostering widespread adoption of solar rooftops,” the group added.
Additionally, the organization is considering installing solar panels in churches to encourage other parishes to do the same.
Caritas Philippines believes that this program could prompt the government to implement more ecologically friendly regulations.
