Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has established an inter-agency group that will focus on the rehabilitation of Marawi City’s energy facilities as the power situation in the area has yet to normalize in Lanao del Sur amid the ongoing crisis.
The new group will consist of the DOE, National Power Corp. (Napocor), Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM), National Electrification Administration (NEA) and Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative.
The inter-agency group is tasked to create options on rehabilitating Marawi City’s energy facilities.
Data from the Inter-Agency Task Force on Securing Energy Facilities (IATSEF) said that 15 municipalities are without power, and only 20 percent of Marawi City is energized.
In terms of power generation, the Agus-Pulangi power plants are normally operating, the National Power Corp. Mindanao Generation (NPC MinGen) said.
Transmission facilities are also normal in operations, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said.
Over the weekend, NGCP re-energized the transmission line powering the Mindanao State University (MSU) that’s directly connected to the grid. The facility tripped last May 23 following the crisis in Marawi City.
