SNAP-Benguet’s Binga hydroelectric power plant has been recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for operational excellence, underscoring the growing emphasis on reliability and plant performance as the Philippines strengthens its power system.
The ERC presented the award to SN Aboitiz Power-Benguet, Inc. (SNAP-Benguet) during its 25th Founding Anniversary celebration on June 26, recognizing the Binga hydroelectric power plant’s outstanding operational performance and commitment to ensuring a reliable and secure electricity supply.
Andrea Toyoda, SNAP assistant vice president for regulatory affairs, accepted the award on behalf of the company during the event at Exquadra Tower in Pasig City.
The ERC’s anniversary carried the theme, “The Next Watt: 25 Years of Regulating for a Modern Energy Future,” bringing together energy industry stakeholders to discuss their roles in advancing a more resilient and future-ready Philippine power sector.
SNAP Chief Operations Officer Mike Hosillos said the recognition reflects the company’s operational discipline and the work of its personnel.
“Reliable operations are built through our team’s disciplined commitment to hold themselves to the highest standards every day. This award recognizes those daily efforts, as well as SNAP’s core values of excellence and teamwork,” he said. “We thank the ERC for the recognition and its continued support. We will keep raising the bar to help ensure a secure and dependable power supply.”
The company said it will continue pursuing innovations to improve operational reliability as it reinforces its role in supporting stable electricity supply for communities and industries.
SNAP operates several renewable energy assets in the country, including the 112.5-megawatt Ambuklao and 140-MW Binga hydroelectric power plants in Benguet, the Magat hydroelectric power plant with a nameplate capacity of 360 MW and maximum capacity of 388 MW on the Isabela-Ifugao border, the 8.5-MW Maris hydro plant, and the 24-MW Magat battery energy storage facility in Isabela.
The company is a joint venture between Scatec and Aboitiz Renewables, Inc.
