The Luzon grid is expected to gain another 420-megawatts as the coal-fired power plant expansion of the AboitizPower Corp. and TeaM Energy Corp in Quezon province is expected to run by the end of the year.
The power plant has already reached its full capacity, and its commissioning is going smoothly, AboitizPower president and COO Antonio Moraza said.
“It’s still commissioning but we already hit the 420 MW,” Moraza said.
Commissioning of the plant is seen to take two to three months.
Moraza added that they hope that the power plant will be ready to begin commercial operations before the year ends.
The project is under the joint venture, Pagbilao Energy Corp (PEC), between TPEC Holdings Corp. and Therma Power Inc – subsidiaries of the two companies.
In June, AboitizPower issued P3 billion to finance ongoing projects including the Pagbilao plant expansion.
The company is also looking to complete the 69-MW Manolo Fortich hydropower plant in Bukidnon, an 8.5 MW Maris Canal hydro project in Isabela and the 340 MW Therma Visayas baseload power plant in Toledo, Cebu.
The projects will add 828.3 MW to AboitizPower’s portfolio. The company targets to reach 4,000 MW by 2020.
AboitizPower’s current net sellable capacity is 3,995 MW.
