The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has increased its power restoration efforts following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-Wong), which left hundreds of thousands of households in Luzon without electricity.
At the height of the storm, outages affected more than 400,000 customers within Meralco’s franchise area. As of 1:00 p.m., the company reported that service has already been restored to most of its customers, bringing the number of affected households down to 166,000.
The utility said work continues in Cavite, Bulacan, and Rizal, which were among the hardest-hit provinces. Restoration teams are also active in Metro Manila, Laguna, Quezon, and Batangas to clear debris, repair damaged lines, and restore service in areas that remain without power.
Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said line crews are working “round-the-clock to safely bring back power” to all affected customers. He urged the public to remain patient and observe electrical safety measures, particularly in flooded areas or locations where power lines have been damaged.
He also reminded customers to avoid plugging in wet electrical appliances, keep power lines clear of obstructions, and immediately report fallen wires to Meralco through its official hotlines and social media channels.
Zaldarriaga said Meralco remains on full alert to ensure quick response and prioritize safety in all ongoing restoration activities.
