In a move toward sustainability and energy efficiency, MSpectrum, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Meralco, has signed a landmark partnership with Meycauayan College to install a 300 kilowatt-peak solar photovoltaic rooftop system. The project will not only cut electricity costs for the institution but will also reduce carbon emissions, marking a major milestone as the college celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

This initiative marks an important milestone for Meycauayan College, as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Established in 1925, the institution has been a pillar of academic excellence and community service in Bulacan, and its shift to renewable energy demonstrates its forward-thinking approach to education and environmental stewardship.

The 300 kWp solar rooftop system is projected to generate approximately 414,400 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually, resulting in an estimated reduction of 292.48 metric tons of carbon emissions each year. This environmental impact is equivalent to planting 13,000 trees or reducing vehicle travel by more than 1.17 million kilometers annually, showcasing the tangible benefits of transitioning to solar energy.

The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

By embracing solar power, Meycauayan College is not only cutting operational expenses but also leading by example in promoting clean energy adoption in the education sector. The savings generated from lower electricity costs are expected to be reallocated to academic programs, faculty support, and student development initiatives, ensuring that the institution continues to provide quality education while reducing its environmental footprint.

Meycauayan College Chairman of the Board Marcos C. Hermoso emphasized the long-term benefits of the partnership with MSpectrum, noting that the initiative aligns with the school’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency.

“With MSpectrum’s support, we are looking forward to reducing our operational expenses. Any savings will greatly benefit the operations of Meycauayan College, and ultimately, we hope to utilize these savings in the form of initiatives that will benefit our stakeholders, which include the teaching staff and students,” he said.

The installation of the solar rooftop system is part of Meralco’s broader strategy to deliver stable, reliable, and sustainable electricity solutions to its customers, particularly in the education sector, where energy efficiency is key to operational sustainability.

“We are deeply honored to be entrusted with the opportunity to support Meycauayan College’s adoption of solar energy. This marks just the beginning of our partnership. At MSpectrum, we are committed to supporting our partners every step of the way—addressing any concerns and ensuring a smooth, seamless transition to renewable energy,” MSpectrum President and CEO Ma. Cecilia M. Domingo said.

With eight years of experience in the solar industry, MSpectrum has become a key player in the Philippines’ clean energy transition, having already installed more than 80 megawatts (MW) of solar rooftop projects across various industries.

The partnership with Meycauayan College highlights MSpectrum’s growing footprint in the education sector, reinforcing the role of solar power in making schools and universities more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible.

As the Philippines continues to push for renewable energy adoption, initiatives like the Meycauayan College solar rooftop project serve as a model for other educational institutions looking to transition to cleaner energy sources. With rising electricity costs and increasing awareness of climate change, schools and universities are now exploring solar energy as a viable solution to reduce expenses and minimize their carbon footprint.
