Filipino Olympic middleweight boxer Eumir Marcial is expected to receive a total of Php5 million entities owned by major energy players Manny V. Pangilinan, Ramon Ang, and Dennis Uy for his bronze medal finish at the Tokyo Olympics.
Pangilinan and Ang have pledged Php2 million, while Uy’s Phoenix Petroleum said it will be giving Php1 million.
Pangilinan runs the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), the country’s largest power distributor, and exploration firm PXP Energy. Ang’s San Miguel Corporation, meanwhile, controls SMC Global Power Holdings — the country’s second largest power generator.
With this latest addition, the three tycoons involved in energy have pledged a total of Php43 million.
Last week, they pledged a total of Php25 million plus free fuel for life from Phoenix for weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who gave the country its first Olympic gold. On Tuesday, they pledged Php13 for boxer Nesthy Petecio after bagging a silver.
Marcial is also getting Php2 million from the government under Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, as well as free flights.
