Power Disturbance Hits Panay Island

Japan, Korea to improve power distribution system in provinces

UPDATED as of 6 AM, January 3, 2024

The NGCP noted that 144.2 MW is currently being supplied by the Panay power generating power plants.

51.8 MW, meanwhile, is being sourced, from other plants in the Visayas grid.

According to the NGCP, the grid needs around 218 MW to stabilize.

JANUARY 2 | A power disturbance hit the Panay Grid, and parts of Negros this afternoon, the Department of Energy said.

In a statement, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NCGP) said that all power-generating plants in Panay Island are not generating power.

“NGCP is focusing its efforts on stabilizing voltage, and have extended feedback power to Iloilo and PEDC. Load restoration will be done conservatively, by matching loads to restored generation, to prevent repeated voltage failure,” NGCP said in a statement.

A yellow alert was declared by NGCP today from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The Energy Regulatory Commission is currently investigating the incident, DOE said.
