Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) is stepping up its efforts to combat urban blight in Pateros with a dedicated wire-clearing operation.
The five-day operation, set to run from January 13 to 17, focuses on F.C. Tuazon Street. Meralco crews will remove sagging and dangling wires while addressing the overloading and leaning of electric poles in the area. These issues, often exacerbated by unauthorized attachments to power facilities, pose potential safety hazards to the community.
“Public safety is our top priority. Meralco proactively conducts maintenance of its facilities in close collaboration with local government units to avoid fire hazards and any untoward incidents,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Corporate Communications Head.
Meralco’s initiative is part of its broader Anti-Urban Blight Program, which aims to maintain the safety and reliability of its infrastructure. By improving the condition of its facilities, Meralco ensures continuous and dependable power supply while mitigating the risk of accidents for local residents.
The company’s commitment to public safety extends beyond this initiative, with similar operations regularly conducted across its service areas. This is in line with Meralco’s ongoing mission to maintain the integrity of its distribution system for the benefit of its customers.
As MERALCO continues to prioritize safety in urban areas, local residents are urged to stay informed about upcoming maintenance activities and support efforts to improve their community’s power infrastructure.
