Sanyo Denki Philippines, a subsidiary of Japan’s Sanyo Denki Co. Ltd., has partnered with First Gen Corporation to supply clean, renewable electricity to all its manufacturing facilities and technology center in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Under the agreement, Sanyo Denki Philippines will receive 5,500 kilowatts of electricity from a geothermal plant operated by Energy Development Corporation, a First Gen subsidiary based in Negros Oriental.

This move is part of Sanyo Denki’s broader commitment to transition all its production sites to renewable energy. “We are pleased to start our partnership with First Gen which we believe is the best way to achieve our goal of using more renewable energy in our production, especially in light of our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations,” said Hirokazu Takeuchi, President and CEO of Sanyo Denki Philippines. “We also believe it is our obligation to provide our customers with products that are produced using renewable energy.”

Beyond clean power, First Gen and sister company Pi Energy Inc. will also provide a remote monitoring system for real-time power usage data, allowing Sanyo Denki to streamline consumption and improve efficiency.

“Shifting a 24/7 operation to RE and rationalizing power consumption are challenges for manufacturing firms. It is our privilege to help enable and advise them on to take the next steps towards a more sustainable future for their operations,” said Carlo Vega, First Gen Chief Engagement Officer.

Sanyo Denki Philippines, established in 2000, is the company’s main production hub for DC cooling fans and also manufactures UPS devices, photovoltaic inverters, and servo motors.

First Gen, a leader in clean energy, operates 1,651 MW of renewable capacity from 28 power plants across the Philippines, alongside 2,017 MW of natural gas capacity—a vital transitional fuel supporting the growth of renewables.
