Meralco Boosts Bulacan Power Reliability with Substation Upgrade

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has completed a major upgrade at its Duhat Substation in Bocaue, replacing a 42 year-old power transformer with a new 300-megavolt ampere (MVA), 220 kilovolt–115 kV transformer equipped with an on-load tap changer.

The upgrade is part of Meralco’s efforts to modernize its infrastructure and ensure the delivery of safe, stable, and reliable electricity to its customers in the rapidly growing province of Bulacan.

The upgraded transformer is expected to significantly enhance power quality in the municipalities of Sta. Maria, Bocaue, Balagtas, Meycauayan, Obando, and Marilao. It will also help support the electricity needs of large consumers and critical institutions such as the Philippine Arena, SM City Marilao, Hightension Steel, Joni Villanueva General Hospital, Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital, and even several local government offices.

Meralco stressed that this project reflects its ongoing commitment to meeting the ever-increasing energy demands of its franchise areas by continuously upgrading its facilities and services.

The Duhat Substation upgrade is among several programs being pursued by the utility to strengthen grid performance and reduce the risk of outages as power consumption continues to rise across the region.
