BDO and ACEN Partner on Landmark Wind Energy Project for Luzon Grid

BDO Unibank, Inc. is sending PHP12.04 billion in financing to ACEN Corporation for the development of what is poised to become the largest onshore wind power facility in the Philippines.

The project, which forms part of ACEN’s renewable energy expansion, aims to deliver clean and reliable electricity to the Luzon grid while also supporting the country’s target of achieving a 35% renewable energy share in the power mix by 2030. It is set to cut carbon emissions and create jobs in host communities.

BDO’s contribution accounts for 35% of the PHP 34.41-billion total loan facility under a 15-year loan agreement. The bank serves as the Senior Lender for the project, while its subsidiaries BDO Capital & Investment Corporation and BDO Trust and Investments Group act as Joint Lead Arranger and as Facility Agent and Security Trustee, respectively.

ACEN President and CEO Eric Francia emphasized the critical role of financial partnerships in the country’s clean energy transition. He went on to say that BDO’s full-spectrum support, from lending to capital structuring and trust management, was critical in pushing the project forward.

BDO Capital President Ed V. Francisco stated the bank is committed to structuring innovative and sustainable financial solutions that bring long-term value to both the economy and the environment. “We are proud to support projects that create lasting impact,” he added.

For BDO, the partnership is in line with its sustainability strategy and grander mission of helping businesses transition to greener models. “We are committed to financing forward-looking investments that power industries, uplift communities, and drive economic development,” said Charles M. Rodriguez, Executive Vice President and Head of BDO’s Institutional Banking Group.

The loan signing ceremony was attended by key executives from BDO and ACEN, including representatives from Quezon North Wind, whose chairman attended the signing

The wind project is seen as a significant milestone in the country’s shift toward energy security and a low-carbon future.
