New DOE Chief Sharon Garin Vows Continuity of Energy Policies

Newly appointed Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon S. Garin has assured stakeholders that the agency will maintain the strategic direction and reforms laid out under the previous administration. She emphasizes policy continuity amid the country’s ongoing energy transition.

In an official statement released on July 14, 2025, Garin expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for entrusting her with the leadership of the DOE. She stressed her commitment to upholding energy security, sustainability, and affordability.

“The strategic direction and institutional reforms laid down under the leadership of former Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla will remain central to our work moving forward,” Garin said. These include efforts to accelerate renewable energy development, expand electrification, enhance energy resiliency, and continue strengthening the investment climate.

Among the initiatives highlighted were the Green Energy Auction Program, the steady growth of renewable energy capacity, and increased investor confidence in the Philippines’ energy transition framework.

Garin also pledged to advance the Department’s mandate through collaboration, transparency, and innovation. She stated that the DOE will continue to pursue responsive energy solutions to ensure that every Filipino has access to reliable and sustainable power.

“These initiatives are aligned not only with our long-term energy goals but also with broader aspirations for inclusive and sustainable national development,” she concluded.
