ERC and BARMM Strengthen Ties for Energy Development in Mindanao

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) met with officials from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to discuss closer collaboration on energy development and electrification efforts. The dialogue took place on September 18, 2025, at the ERC Main Office.

ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan said the regulator is ready to work with the Bangsamoro Government to address regional energy challenges. He stressed ERC’s commitment to ensuring access to reliable and affordable electricity services for the Bangsamoro people.

The BARMM delegation was led by MENRE Minister Akmad A. Brahim and Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority Director General Mohajirin T. Tali, with other officials and staff from MENRE. From the ERC, Legal Service Director Atty. Maria Corazon C. Gines and key technical staff also joined the discussions.

Both parties agreed to improve coordination in areas such as power supply, renewable energy development, and investment promotion. They also emphasized the importance of joint action in expanding electrification and supporting BARMM’s energy priorities.

ERC said the meeting reaffirms its support for inclusive and resilient energy development, particularly in Mindanao, by strengthening partnerships with regional stakeholders.
