Scatec and Aboitiz Renewables have secured a 20-year power supply deal for a 68-megawatt floating solar project in Isabela province, which marks another step forward in the country’s renewable energy expansion, the company announced on their website.

The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was awarded under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program 4 (GEA 4) and will be implemented through SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP), the joint venture between the two companies where Scatec owns 50%.

The floating solar plant will be built on the Magat reservoir, where SNAP already operates hydropower and energy storage facilities. These include a 388 MW hydropower plant, an 8.5 MW run-of-river hydro, and a 24 MW battery energy storage system.

Scatec Chief Executive Officer Terje Pilskog said the project highlights how hybrid systems can combine different clean energy technologies for greater efficiency. “This award further strengthens our platform in the Philippines and underlines our ability to scale innovative, hybrid renewable energy solutions,” Pilskog stated. “Floating solar on hydropower reservoirs is a smart way to add clean capacity with minimal land use and strong grid integration.”

The project supports the Philippines’ broader goal of raising its renewable energy share to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040, while also aligning with Scatec’s plans to grow its solar and energy storage portfolio in the country.

SNAP currently has 56 MW of battery energy storage projects under construction and another 80 MW in the pipeline.

Construction of the floating solar facility is expected to begin in 2026, with operations targeted for 2027, once financial close is achieved. Scatec said the project will use p

roven floating solar technology with a track record in Southeast Asia. Details on project costs and financing will be announced later.
