Mabini Solar Project breaks ground, set to power 24,000 homes in Pangasinan

Construction has officially started on the 60MWdc Mabini Solar Project in Brgy. San Pedro, Mabini, Pangasinan, a development expected to supply electricity to more than 24,000 households and cut over 76,500 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Developed by Trinasolar International Systems Business Unit (Trinasolar ISBU), the global project development arm of Trinasolar Co., Ltd., the project is the company’s first greenfield venture in the Philippines. Commercial operations are slated to begin by the end of the third quarter of 2026, backed by a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with AboitizPower unit, AdventEnergy.

“This groundbreaking marks an important step toward delivering clean, reliable energy while creating long-term value for the local community and the broader Philippine energy market,” said Mr. Derek Wang, SEA Regional Manager of Trinasolar ISBU.

The ceremony was held on February 7 at the project site, attended by key government and industry representatives, including Zenith Renewable Holdings Corporation President Aris Z. Tulalian and Board of Investments (BOI) officials led by BPO Governor Atty. Marjorie O. Ramos-Samaniego.

The Mabini project represents a milestone for Trinasolar ISBU’s expansion in Southeast Asia, as the company continues to pursue solar, battery energy storage, data center, and microgrid projects across the region.

With Mabini and similar projects coming online, how quickly can the Philippines scale renewable energy to meet rising demand and climate targets?
