Yusen Logistics shifts Parañaque head office to renewable power under GEOP with ACEN RES

ACEN Corporation announced its retail electricity unit has signed a renewable energy supply agreement with Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc.. This enables the logistics firm to power its head office in Parañaque City completely with renewable energy.

Under the signed contract, Yusen Logistics will source 100% of its office electricity requirements from ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP)– which is a government mechanism that allows eligible electricity consumers to choose renewable energy suppliers directly.

The arrangement places Yusen Logistics among a growing list of corporate end-users using GEOP to shift their electricity sourcing away from conventional power supply contracts and toward renewable energy providers.

Yusen Logistics President Mitsutaka Matsubara said the move supports the company’s climate goals, which include reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 from a 2022 baseline and achieving net zero emissions across its services by 2050. He said this effort is guided by the philosophy of “Jibun-goto,” which “embodies the proactive choice of taking ownership of challenges rather than expecting them to resolve on their own.”

ACEN RES Vice President and Head of Account Management Sheila Mina, on the other hand, said the agreement reflects increasing participation from the logistics sector in the renewable energy transition. “By choosing to source 100% renewable energy through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), Yusen Logistics demonstrates decisive leadership in decarbonizing the logistics sector,” she said.

ACEN RES also awarded Yusen Logistics its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge, which it gives to customers that fully transition their electricity consumption to renewable sources under the program.

According to data cited in the disclosure, ACEN RES currently holds a 57% market share in the GEOP segment, based on the Energy Regulatory Commission’s latest Competitive Retail Electricity Market report, putting it as the program’s top supplier.

As corporate participation in GEOP continues to expand, how quickly will demand from offices and service industries reshape the retail renewable energy market in the Philippines?
