The Philippine AXA Life Centre has now transitioned into sourcing renewable power through a supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), via the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
The 28-story office tower in the Makati Central Business District is now procuring renewable energy through ACEN RES, the retail electricity arm of the ACEN Corporation.
The transition was made under GEOP, a program which allows electricity end-users with an average monthly peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to switch their power supply to renewable energy sources through a licensed supplier. This not only lets them directly tap into cleaner energy, but also helps them have more control over their electricity needs.
Arturo Tanyag, President of the Philippine AXA Life Centre Condominium Corp., said the move aligns with the building’s long-term operational values.
“This partnership with ACEN RES marks a significant milestone in our commitment to responsible property management. While the Philippine AXA Life Centre has stood as a pillar of stability in Makati for decades, we believe that true resilience involves adapting to the needs of the future. By transitioning to renewable energy, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also providing our tenants with a business environment that supports their own sustainability goals,” Tanyag said.
Sheila Mina, Vice President and Head of Account Management at ACEN RES, said the transition showcases a growing recognition of sustainability among commercial establishments.
“We are honored to support the Philippine AXA Life Centre in this meaningful transition. As we see more established commercial hubs like this make the switch, it sends a powerful message that sustainability is now a business imperative. ACEN RES is committed to guiding our partners through every step of this journey,” Mina said.
ACEN RES currently holds a 57% market share among GEOP suppliers, according to the latest Competitive Retail Electricity Market report released by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
In recognition of the switch, ACEN RES awarded the Philippine AXA Life Centre its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge. Launched in 2022, the badge has been installed in nearly 100 renewable-powered facilities nationwide.
As more commercial buildings participate in GEOP, will renewable electricity procurement become standard practice in Metro Manila’s business districts?
