SNAP raises RE output to 1.72 TWh, boosts hydro availability to 95.2% in 2025

SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) has increased its renewable energy generation to 1.72 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2025, alongside stronger operational performance across its hydro portfolio, as it continued expanding sustainability initiatives spanning energy, environment, and communities.

The company reported an availability factor of 95.2%, up from 93% in 2024 and significantly higher than the global hydro benchmark of around 81%, underscoring improved plant reliability across its assets in Luzon.

SNAP said the gains were achieved alongside sustained safety performance, logging more than 10.8 million safe man-hours with zero lost-time injuries during the year.

“Sustainability has always been at the core of how we operate,” said Joseph Yu, SNAP Group’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our focus is not only on ensuring the long-term viability of our assets, but also on creating meaningful and measurable impact for our communities and the environment.”

On the environmental front, SNAP rehabilitated 23.7 hectares of watershed areas and planted 39,500 seedlings in 2025 through its reforestation and watershed protection programs. These include its Partnership in Uplifting Upland Natural Resources, Livelihood and Assets (PUNLA) initiative and Aboitiz Group’s A-Park program, implemented with local government units, indigenous peoples’ organizations, and community partners.

The company also continued long-term watershed protection efforts under its Adopt-a-Watershed Program, which covers forest monitoring, fireline establishment, and community-based patrol systems.

Community investments reached approximately PHP 36 million in 2025, supporting projects in infrastructure, education, livelihood, governance, health, indigenous peoples’ programs, and environmental protection across SNAP’s host communities. The company said its Community Investment and Development Program is designed to align projects with local priorities through stakeholder engagement.

Education support also remained a core pillar through the BRIGHTS (Bridging Gaps in Higher Education through Tertiary Scholarships) program, which supported 45 active scholars during the year, including 12 new entrants. A total of 60 scholars graduated under the initiative in 2025.

SNAP also advanced early-stage developments in battery energy storage systems in Magat, Binga, and Ambuklao, alongside its first commercial-scale floating solar project on the Magat reservoir, signaling continued diversification of its renewable portfolio.

“With sustainability as our foundation, we will continue to enhance our operations, strengthen our partnerships, and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable energy future,” Yu said.

SNAP, a joint venture between Scatec and Aboitiz Renewables Inc., operates hydro assets including Ambuklao, Binga, Magat, and Maris, alongside a 24-MW battery energy storage facility in Isabela.

What do SNAP’s rising hydro availability and expanding storage pipeline signal for the country’s next phase of renewable integration and grid stability?
