The Department of Energy said SM Prime Holdings has committed to implementing weekly energy reduction measures as part of the government’s O.N.E.: Oras Natin sa Efficiency campaign.
Launched on April 25, 2026, the campaign establishes a coordinated energy-saving window every Saturday from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It encourages households, businesses, and communities to switch off non-essential lights and unplug unused appliances during that timeslot.
Under the initiative, SM Prime will implement energy reduction measures across its properties and establishments during the designated hour.
The company will also assign energy officers, monitor and report savings, promote the campaign among tenants, employees, and customers, and sustain energy-efficient practices beyond the one-hour activity.
Sharon S. Garin, secretary of the Department of Energy, said managing electricity demand is critical alongside ensuring supply.
“Energy security requires both reliable supply and disciplined demand across all sectors. The O.N.E. campaign demonstrates that simple actions, when practiced collectively and consistently, can deliver measurable impact on our power system and help cushion consumers from price pressures,” Garin said.
The DOE said coordinated demand-side efforts have already shown measurable results, citing a 145.43-megawatt reduction in power demand during Earth Hour 2026.
The department said the campaign aims to reduce overall system demand, ease pressure on the grid, and promote more responsible electricity use.
It is also calling on more institutions, businesses, and households to participate in the initiative and help make energy efficiency a regular practice.
