Basic Energy launching e-transport project

Basic Energy Corporation is set to launch its Green Energy E-Transport Project that will roll out electric buses (e-buses) and solarize several gasoline stations in the country.

Under the project, Basic Energy is targeting to roll out 3,000 e-buses and install solar panels at 1,500 retail stations nationwide. Initially, the company will operate 60 e-buses and solarize 30 gas stations. Basic Energy allotted an initial Php40 million for the project.

French multinational oil firm Total, as well as other independent players like EcoOil and Filpride-USA88, have expressed their interest in the project. They are set to determine prospective sites, pilot installations, and commence feasibility studies and data gathering.

“The Green Energy E-Transport Project is BSC’s ambitious endeavor in pursuit of its vision to become a major instrument in the country’s drive for energy self-sufficiency by providing clean, efficient, and reliable energy sources,” Basic Energy said in a statement.

BSC is Basic Energy’s trading symbol in the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). On Monday, the company disclosed to the PSE that it is allotting at least Php31 million for its Mabini wind project in Batangas.

The company added that the project is aligned with the country’s goal to introduce the use and advocacy of electric vehicles (EVs) and e-transport systems to reduce carbon footprint.

Earlier, AC Motors said it will also bring EVs into the Philippine market, as part of the Ayala group’s net-zero greenhouse emissions goal by 2050.

In June last year, the Senate approved Senate Bill 1382 or the proposed EV and Charging Stations (EVCS) Act, which aims to establish a national energy policy and regulatory framework for the use of EVs and the construction of charging stations. The House of Representatives also passed its own version in September.

On the part of the executive branch, the Department of Energy drafted a circular for the development and operation of EVs in the country.
