DOE partners with PSME for technical audit

The Department of Energy (DOE) has partnered with private sector Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) for a technical audit of the country’s generation, transmission and distribution facilities.

“Public interest demands an appropriate intervention from both the government and the private sector to ensure consumer protection,” Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said.

DOE signed a memorandum of agreement with the PSME in Taguig City. Under the memorandum, the PSME will provide pro-bono services.

“The DOE is determined to immediately address the recurring challenges in the power supply chain that [affect] the productivity of our people. The entry of PSME will strengthen DOE’s technical audit teams,” Cusi said.

The energy secretary added that the department remains keen in ensuring reliable, stable, sustainable, sufficient and reasonably priced electricity to Filipinos.

The PMSE is the only accredited professional association of registered and professional mechanical engineers in the Philippines. It currently has 84 members with necessary technical knowledge, expertise and competence that will help the Energy department in facing current power problems.

The DOE has also signed an agreement with the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, in assistance to the audit of technical facilities.
