The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is targeting the completion of the Tuy–Dasmariñas 500 kV Transmission Line by the fourth quarter of 2025. The P8.1-billion project willenable efficient grid integration for over 5,215 MW of proposed power generation.

The completion target was disclosed by NGCP Assistant Vice President for Planning and Engineering Redi Allan Remoroza.

The project, which involves the construction of a 49-km double-circuit overhead transmission line, will initially be energized at 230 kV before transitioning to full 500 kV operation to support rising energy demands in Luzon.

The Tuy–Dasmariñas 500 kV Transmission Line is a key backbone project aimed at reinforcing power transmission capacity in Southern Luzon. Apart from the construction of the 49-km double-circuit overhead transmission line, the project also involves the development of a new 500/230 kV substation in Tuy, Batangas.

As construction of the Tuy–Dasmariñas project progresses, NGCP  is also awaiting regulatory approval for six additional capital expenditure projects worth P20 billion, which remain pending with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). These projects include:

  • P1 billion Concepcion–Sta. Ignacia 69 kV Transmission Line Project
  • P4.415 billion San Simon 230 kV Substation Project
  • P1.64 billion Pinili 230 kV Substation Project
  • P6.45 billion Laray 230 kV Substation Project
  • P3.31 billion Calbayog–Allen Transmission Line Project
  • P3.6 billion Maco–Mati 138 kV Transmission Line Project

NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Perez-Alabanza emphasized the urgent need for ERC’s approval, stating that these projects are critical for improving the country’s transmission network.

Delays in transmission project approvals could slow down the integration of new power plants, potentially affecting the overall stability of the grid.

Batangas has become a key hub for power generation, with multiple energy projects planned to support Luzon’s growing electricity demand. The Tuy–Dasmariñas transmission line will serve as a critical link, allowing new power plants in Calaca and nearby areas to efficiently transmit electricity to the grid.

This transmission expansion is expected to reduce grid congestion, improve reliability, and lower the risk of power shortages, particularly during peak demand periods.
