SMC Global Light and Power Corporation and SunAsia Energy, Inc. have challenged Terra Solar’s unsolicited offer to supply 850 megawatts (MW) of mid-merit power to the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO).
According to a report by the Manila Standard, both challengers have submitted expressions of interest to MERALCO’s third-party bids and awards committee.
The two companies are developing a combined solar and battery energy storage systems portfolio of 2,500MW and 4,000 megawatt-hours, respectively.
SMC Global Light is owned by SMC Global Power Holdings (SMCGP), the power arm of San Miguel Corporation (SMC). SMCGP, the country’s second largest power generator, will be supplying MERALCO with 170MW of peaking power during the summer season.
Meanwhile, SunAsia Energy signed a deal with Singapore-based Blueleaf Energy last year to develop 1,250MW of solar projects in Luzon.
Terra Solar is a joint venture company between Leandro Leviste’s Solar Philippines and Enrique Razon’s Prime Infrastructure Capital, Inc.
