Wyn Power Corporation has officially launched the construction of its 50 megawatt peak (MWp) solar power plant in Brgy. Bukal, Taysan, Batangas, a P1.5 billion investment under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program 2 (GEAP-2).

The 48-hectare solar farm is set to produce 74 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually, strengthening the Luzon grid while supporting Batangas Electric Cooperative II (BATELEC II) and other nearby power distributors.

The company, in a statement, said the solar facility will be connected to the grid via a 2.3-kilometer transmission link to BATELEC II’s 69kV network, ensuring seamless energy distribution to businesses and households.

Winning a green energy tariff of P4.10 per kWh in the December 2023 auction, showcases Wyn Power’s efficiency and commitment to delivering affordable renewable energy, benefiting both the company and the consumers by providing clean power at a lower cost.

According to Wyn Power President and CEO Engr. Rodel B. Arada, the Taysan Solar Facility forms part of their commitment to transition to renewable energy while also driving local economic development through job creation, increased tax revenue. “This 50 MWp addition to the Luzon grid will significantly benefit industries and consumers served by BATELEC II and nearby electric cooperatives.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from Wyn Power’s subsidiary Greensun Renewables Inc., officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), local government units, and the private sector, and DOE Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan.

“Today’s event is proof of how the Green Energy Auction Program 2 is successfully attracting private sector investment in renewables. We welcome Wyn Power’s commitment to building a greener energy future and look forward to the project’s completion,” Marasigan said on the importance of public-private partnership.

Meanwhile, Wyn Power Business Development Partner Armando L. Diaz, who also graced the event, also thanked stakeholders for their role in advancing the project. “With permitting complete and financing discussions underway, we are confident that with the support of the banking community, DOE, DENR, and our partners, Wyn Power will successfully bring this project to life,” Diaz said.

Apart from the Taysan solar farm, Wyn Power also has rooftop solar and mini-hydro projects in its expanding portfolio, a testament to its commitment to decarbonizing Philippine industries. The company’s roster of clients includes Steel Asia, Aboitiz Land, Rockwell Land, SM Development Corp., and Nestlé.

The Taysan solar farm is not just about power generation—it represents progress toward a greener, more resilient energy system. As climate concerns drive global energy shifts, projects like this showcase the potential of renewable energy to create lasting environmental and economic benefits.
