The Department of Energy (DOE), together with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which aims to join forces in the advancement of renewable energy (RE) research and development (R&D).
In a statement released by the DOE, this agreement would make use of the Renewable Energy Trust Fund (RETF) mandated under Section 28 of Republic Act No. 9513 or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
The MOA between the DOE and DOST, facilitated by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), focuses on joint research initiatives targeting enhanced affordability and efficiency of renewable energy (RE) technologies and other emerging technologies.
“By joining forces with the DOST, we aim to leverage our collective strengths and resources to drive innovation and overcome technical, economic, and policy challenges to facilitate the widespread adoption of RE technologies,” Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla said.
The RETF is used in various initiatives aimed at advancing renewable energy technologies and their applications. This includes funding renewable energy research, development, and promotion efforts conducted by institutions and public-private partnerships, as well as providing fellowships for energy studies.
