LNGPH President and CEO Yari A. Miralao said the company is expediting the restoration of its power generation units following a directive from the Department of Energy (DOE), as efforts to stabilize the Luzon grid gained momentum after a yellow alert was raised earlier in the day.
In a statement, Miralao acknowledged the instruction from Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin and committed to fast-track the return of its facilities to support system reliability.
“We acknowledge the directive… and will fully comply with the instruction to expedite the full restoration of our facilities,” Miralao said.
He reported that all three units of Excellent Energy Resources Inc. (EERI) have already been synchronized to the grid, while the remaining units of South Premiere Power Corporation (SPPC) are scheduled for synchronization later in the evening.
Miralao added that the company’s teams continue to work with urgency to complete restoration efforts and minimize any disruption to consumers.
The update comes after multiple plant outages triggered a yellow alert on the Luzon grid, tightening supply margins and prompting the DOE to order immediate corrective action.
Later in the evening, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines lifted the yellow alert at 7:33 PM as system conditions improved.
Grid data showed available capacity rose to 12,639 megawatts (MW), exceeding demand of 11,851 MW and restoring a more comfortable operating margin.
A yellow alert is issued when reserves fall below the required contingency level, indicating limited buffers to absorb additional outages.
With key generating units returning to service, supply conditions stabilized, allowing the system to exit alert status.
As restoration efforts continue, how can the power sector further strengthen its ability to respond quickly to sudden plant outages?
