Goldilocks taps First Gen for 516-kW Cebu solar rooftop

Goldilocks Bakeshop, Inc. has partnered with First Gen Corporation to build and operate a 516-kilowatt-peak (kWp) rooftop solar facility at its production plant in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, expanding the use of on-site renewable energy in the country’s food manufacturing sector.

The solar photovoltaic (PV) system was formally inaugurated on May 14 and will supply part of the electricity requirements of Goldilocks’ Cebu commissary, which serves stores in Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete, Masbate and Siquijor.

The project is covered by a solar power purchase agreement (SPPA) signed in November 2025, under which First Gen constructed and installed the solar facility and will operate and maintain it for 10 years.

Goldilocks said the project supports its broader effort to cut power expenses and increase the share of renewable energy used in its production facilities.

“We are pleased to begin this partnership with First Gen to help us achieve our sustainability goals,”  said Marilou Plando, Goldilocks head of manufacturing for Visayas. “So far, we have started to see tangible results from our ability to generate part of our energy requirements from solar energy. Our solar power gives us a level of comfort in terms of power supply stability and security while contributing to environment preservation.”

Founded in 1966, Goldilocks operates more than 1,000 stores across the Philippines, as well as branches in the United States and Canada.

For First Gen, the agreement adds another commercial and industrial customer to its growing portfolio of energy solutions beyond utility-scale generation.

“We are privileged to help empower Goldilocks in generating their own solar power. We look forward to a deeper partnership and collaboration with them as we move forward with our shared vision towards a decarbonized future,” said Mark Malabanan, head of solar and commercial business of First Gen.

First Gen said it has 1,700 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity from 31 hydro, geothermal, solar and wind facilities nationwide. The company also offers on-site solar systems, remote energy monitoring and energy audits to commercial and industrial clients.
